At Yoshinkan Dojo Zug we do everything we can to develop your abilities and skills. You learn a martial art that helps you grow as a person, and effective techniques to defend yourself at any time.
We are a close-knit team; we respect and coach one another. Training is intensive and aims to condition your body so that you can react to an attack in a split second.
Sensei Raoul Haldimann
7th dan Kyoshi, Menkyo Kaiden – Motoha Yoshin Ryu
Raoul Haldimann is the founder and Sensei of Yoshinkan Dojo Zug and a personal student of Soke Yasumoto Akiyoshi. He began training in martial arts at the age of eight, practised several styles and received his first black belt (shodan) in Japan in 2000.
Besides teaching, he continually works on his own technique and regularly trains in Japan. He also attends seminars in other styles such as MMA, Brazilian jiu-jitsu and Dog Brothers Martial Arts to get to know effective techniques and other fighting systems. In Motoha Yoshin Ryu, too, it is important to stay in touch with the hard reality of combat.
History of the dojo
- 2008 After two years in Japan, India and Thailand, Raoul returns to Switzerland and starts a training group in Zug. At first the group trains at weekends as a subtenant of a karate school, then for a few months at the Kulturhaus Gewürzmühle in Zug.
- 2009 Under the name “Yoshinkan Honbu Swiss Shibu Dojo” the group moves to its current location, the Freizeitraum in Cham. In the early years the dojo is supervised by Sensei Andy McCormack from the United Kingdom.
- 2012 Raoul qualifies as a Krav Maga instructor and has also taught Krav Maga in Cham ever since.
- 2016 Raoul organises the international Motoha Yoshin Ryu Taikai in Switzerland. During Soke Yasumoto's visit the dojo becomes independent – as Yoshinkan Dojo Zug.
- Today Many students of the dojo have passed their black belt examination with Soke Yasumoto.
How we treat each other in the dojo is described in our dojo rules and etiquette.
